I recently stopped by Brian Schmitt’s workshop to do an interview with him and to film his work. Brian designs and produces his own line of mobiles and lighting. His work combines modern design with materials that are environmentally sustainable as well as beautiful. Enjoy the video and be sure to check out Brian’s websites for product availability.

street contact

Pizza Fund

Taking photos in the streets is one of my favorite places to be. I often seek out people and places that stand in contrast to mainstream culture. It brings me sense of completeness to click the shutter and capture an image that tells a story of someone living on the edge.

Charlie Rose x Henri Cartier-Bresson

If you have an hour to kill and you want to be enlightened by two masters of their craft, then check out this interview by Charlie Rose of Henri Cartier-Bresson. Bresson is a photographer who inspires me greatly — his way of seeing has taught me much about why I shoot. Charlie Rose is someone I consider to be a master of the art of interviewing — and this is a great example of how to do it — enjoy!

graffiti joe in sf Magazine

SF MAG

Graffiti Joe was recently published in the June 2008 edition of San Francisco Magazine. Though the picture was re-purposed for the article titled The Seven Year Rich, we still greatly appreciate it being printed in the magazine — thanks to Alejandro and the rest of SF Mag staff. The original photo can be seen here.

Found this video of Krishnamurti on YouTube. It is part of a series with Krishnamurti titled The Real Revolution. Thanks to KFoundation for posting these videos of Krishnamurti on Youtube. Below is the program description.

This 30-minute documentary is the first from an original series of eight made for television in 1966. They were the earliest sound-films of Krishnamurti speaking to audiences.

audio pictures: olympic torch protest

play videoclick to play slideshow

This volume of audio pictures focuses on the recent Olympic Torch Protest that happened San Francisco. Though I never saw the torch because they changed the route due to the large numbers of protesters gathered in downtown. I was able to get some great pictures of the people that were there to see the event or protest it.

Chants like “Stop the killing in Tibet“, “Shame on China“, and “China lies, people die“, could be heard all around. Debate between Pro-China and Anti-China demonstrators was intense, as I buzzed around the groups taking photos and recording audio of them.

It was a good day to see and capture such an outpouring of expression from both sides. I tried to stay in the middle of it, catching both views.

More photos from the day can be seen at Flickr

le bijoutier

Le BiJoutier 7 s

Last week I linked up with Sean Stewart of Babylon Falling to do some documentation of Le Bijoutier, an urban street photographer.

We followed him around the Mission here San Francisco. I took photos of him, while Sean interviewed him on his thoughts about street art. The final slide show can be seen here.

Le Bijoutier just published a book of his photos of street art in NYC. Images from his book release event can be seen here. Congrats on finishing the project!

Big UPS to Sean for putting the day together and also Big UPS to Le Bijoutier for putting together the book, great job. Also it was nice to meet Tom and Muriel. Below are a few of the photos from the day that like. Also please check the Babylon Falling website for more info on Le Bijoutier.

year one

YEAR ONE s

It is hard to believe that a year has passed since the birth of our son. We had a huge one year celebration for him, which is a custom in Korean culture. It was a lot of fun, and I was really proud of him. So many people standing around him cheering and so much going on. He handled it very well, not one tear or complaint.
